Evaluating the functioning of the ventilation and air conditioning system and assessing the quality of the internal environment

Objective

Inventory, assessment and analysis of the ventilation and air conditioning system, intensity of air exchange and air treatment processes in the building, and assessment and analysis of the quality of indoor environment in the building.

The evaluation is based on measurement and recording of selected air parameters in the rooms and the characteristic points of the air-conditioning unit. These parameters are then analyzed and compared with the requirements of Polish and European regulations as well as technical recommendations for a particular type of system. The analysis of indoor climate quality is based on comparing them with the requirements of PN-EN 15251: 2012 - "Indoor environmental input parameters for design and assessment of energy performance of buildings addressing indoor air quality, thermal environment, lighting and acoustics" and recommendations for each type of building and use. The measured parameters will be used to determine the PMV internal climate comfort index (expected mean) and PPD (expected unsatisfactory rate).

Scope

  • Analysis of requirements for internal air parameters.
  • Analysis of ventilation requirements for individual rooms, including the required ventilation air flow in rooms.
  • Measurement and recording of selected air parameters in the rooms and characteristic points of the air-conditioning unit (eg air temperature and humidity, carbon dioxide concentration, flow rate, pressure loss, turbulence of air flow, light intensity, sound intensity).
  • Estimation of ventilation air exchange in rooms.
  • Quantitative and qualitative design of ventilation air treatment processes.
  • Analysis of results and comparison with the required and / or recommended values for a given type of system.
  • Checking the risk of mold growth in living areas.

Methodology

The ventilation and air conditioning system in the building should be listed. Next at the characteristic points of the building / premises or air-conditioning unit, measurements and recording of selected air parameters are performed. The measured and estimated values are compared with the required, recommended or reference values for the type of building and / or use.

Legal basis:

  • Polish standard PN-B-03421: 1978 - "Ventilation and air conditioning - Parameters of indoor air in rooms intended for permanent residence"
  • PN-EN 15251:2012 – „Indoor environmental input parameters for design and assessment of energy performance of buildings addressing indoor air quality, thermal environment, lighting and acoustics”
  • Polish standard PN-B-03430: 1983 / Az3: 2000 - "Ventilation in residential buildings of public housing and public utilities - Requirements"
  • EN-ISO 13788 "Hygrothermal performance of building components and building elements - Internal surface temperature to avoid critical surface humidity and interstitial condensation - Calculation methods"
