Evaluation of the effectiveness of building components

Objective

On the market there are many recommendations of varied nature. Often obtaining the right recommendation is required by law, but there are also many voluntary recommendations. Manufacturers of construction products may obtain such recommendations from third parties (ie non-manufacturing entities). NAPE has been evaluating and selecting the most beneficial solutions for many years, and does not promote any specific technology. Thanks to its current activity NAPE S.A. It is perceived as a company that can act as a third party.

Scope

The modern building is not a collection of independent products, but an integrated product whose efficiency is the result of the synergy of all the solutions used. This means that testing a product, such as a window, in isolation from the characteristics of the other building components is not complete. NAPE S.A. conducts a simulation of the effectiveness of the use of building components as components of a complex system, taking into account the characteristics of all products and functions of a building.

Methodology

The analysis of the effectiveness of individual products is based on many simulations covering a wide range of construction and operating parameters such as:

  • Characteristics of building thermal protection elements
  • Characteristics of the ventilation system
  • Characteristics of the heating / cooling system
  • Function and characteristics of building use.

The effectiveness of individual components is determined by their use in the proposed reference buildings. Analysis of the construction market in Poland allowed NAPE S.A. develop the characteristics of a reference building for both multi-family and single-family housing. The basic assumptions for both reference buildings are given below.

Basic assumptions for multi-family building:

  • An eight-storey building with a basement
  • Units of type M1, M2 and M3 (and corresponding assumptions about the use of the building)
  • Flat roof
  • Thermal parameters of building partitions (minimum requirements of Technical Conditions for newly erected buildings)
  • Water heating using convection heaters
  • Heat source - domestic heating network
  • Gravity or mechanical exhauster (windows with diffusers + additional assumptions about the ventilation of the building to meet the requirements of PN-83 / B-03430 / Az3: 2000)

Basic assumptions for a single-family building:

  • Two-storey building without basement
  • Functional areas: ground floor: living room, study room, kitchen with dining room, bathroom / WC, corridor; 1st floor: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms / WC, walk-in closet, corridor)
  • Garage adjacent to the building unheated
  • Gable roof
  • Thermal parameters of building partitions (minimum requirements of Technical Conditions for newly erected buildings)
  • Water heating using convection heaters
  • Heat source: multifunctional gas boiler (efficiency 90%)
  • Gravity or mechanical exhauster (windows with diffusers + additional assumptions about the ventilation of the building to meet the requirements of PN-83 / B-03430 / Az3: 2000)
  • Usage (family of four - 2 + 2).
